You’ve seen the powerful video clips of the devastation in Japan and have been wondering what role you can have in Japan’s relief and recovery efforts? If you know any of the STINT team there we have evacuated them several days ago and we will continue to monitor the nuclear reactor situation closely as we hope to get them back to Tokyo soon. While there is still a lot that will emerge in the future, here is where we can start.
Pray. A 9.0 magnitude earthquake with hundreds of aftershocks, an ensuing tsunami, and the current threat of a nuclear meltdown have left 500,000 Japanese people homeless, 10,000 people missing, and thousands dead. Less than 1% of the entire nation knows Jesus Christ.
Give. Though Japan has one of the largest economies in the world, it is still in dire need of finances to provide emergency care, food, shelter and clothing for victims. At this time, clothing and food donations are not necessary. Your financial contribution is the best way to provide these resources. It will help Japan CCC provide the relief supplies needed.
Share. Let friends, family, and the campus community know how they can give. Pray for Japan with others. Reach out to Japanese students on campus – Bridges has written an article which explains how to share Christ with Japanese in the midst of a crisis.
Go. We are currently working with Japan to receive teams of volunteers. We hope to send relief and rebuilding teams this summer—so stay tuned for updates. It’s a great opportunity for Japanese speakers to use their abilities by translating as we go to Japan. If the Lord is leading you to be more involved here or to go to Japan, please email your thoughts and indicate your interest by emailing JapanRelief@uscm.org.
